ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

Alternative medical practices take a more holistic approach to health and disease than conventional Western medicine. Western medicine is more focused on treating a specific problem (such as heart disease) where alternative medicine looks at the whole animal and its environment to try to restore a healthy balance. Using a combined approach to health and disease (Western and Alternative practices) allows us to use an integrative approach and gives more tools to restore health and prevent disease.

In addition to conventional Western medicine treatments, Animal Hospital of Cotati offers acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, and Bioresonance.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture originated in China over 4,500 years ago and has been used to treat disease and to maintain health. Acupuncture needles are placed in specific points on the body that have been determined by the practitioner to be the most beneficial for the presenting condition. The stimulation of the points usually results in a therapeutic effect.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of conditions, such as arthritis, lameness, intervertebral disc disease (either when surgery is not an option or post-surgery to speed the recovery process), paralysis, gastrointestinal disease, and many others.

Sedation is not required or recommended and sessions take between 30 minutes to an hour.

Only licensed veterinarians are eligible to practice acupuncture in most states. Dr. Laura Adams is the veterinary acupuncturist at our hospital and is certified by the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine and the China National Society of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.

BIORESONANCE

Bicom or Bioresonance Therapy is a cutting-edge, non-invasive electromagnetic therapy. We use it to help treat your pets in cases where standard “Western” medicine has not been as successful as desired. Many of our Bioresonance clients have been referred from other veterinary hospitals. Some of the more common types of cases where we have seen significant results have included Chronic Skin Disease, Kidney Disease, Cystitis and support for cancer. Dr. Hinkle has been practicing and participating in training classes for Bioresonance since 2005.
